Toronto, Canada, July 31, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — For many years, researchers have looked for ways to lengthen the healthy human lifespan. More and more, though, some of the most notable advances are originating from an unexpected source: animals.

From large-scale investigations tracking the aging process in dogs to novel treatments aimed at reducing age-related decline, the study of animal longevity is quickly moving from theory to measurable science. These findings are not only assisting scientists in gaining a deeper understanding of aging in pets but also yielding important insights that could shape the future of human healthspan.

In spite of this momentum, the field has lacked a dedicated global platform where researchers, veterinarians, biotech companies, and investors can exchange findings, encourage collaboration, and speed up progress.

To fill that void, the Animal Longevity Summit (ALOS) has announced its first two-day scientific conference, scheduled for October 1–2, 2026, in Toronto. The event will gather top specialists in geroscience, veterinary medicine, biotechnology, and aging research to examine how the biology of aging can be measured, decelerated, and applied to extend healthier lives, starting with animals.
"The field of human longevity has grown tremendously over the past decade, yet animal longevity, which may hold some of the most important clues to understanding human aging, has lacked a dedicated scientific home," said Vyom Goel, Founder of the Animal Longevity Summit.
"We created the Animal Longevity Summit to change that. Our mission is straightforward: help animals live longer, healthier lives through rigorous, evidence-driven science while accelerating discoveries that may ultimately benefit both veterinary and human medicine."
The summit arrives at a critical time for the discipline. Major projects like the Dog Aging Project, along with a growing number of veterinary clinical trials, are producing the first large-scale datasets that examine treatments aimed at improving healthspan and longevity in companion animals. These results are starting to change how scientists view aging across species and could provide valuable clues for extending the human healthy lifespan.
To capture the full scope of this quickly evolving field, the conference program will include eight scientific tracks covering:
- Canine longevity and animal healthspan
- Comparative biology of aging
- Model and non-model organisms
- Biomarkers and biological aging clocks
- Longevity interventions and therapeutics
- Veterinary geroscience
- Cross-species translation to human health
- Emerging research from early-career scientists through dedicated postdoctoral showcases
The event will feature keynote addresses, expert panels, featured research talks, and presentations chosen through an international Call for Abstracts.
The initial speaker lineup already includes several globally recognized leaders in aging research, including Dr. Matt Kaeberlein (Dog Aging Project), Dr. Vera Gorbunova (University of Rochester), Dr. Aubrey de Grey (LEV Foundation), Dr. Varun Dwaraka (TruDiagnostic), Liz Parrish (BioViva), and Dr. Raghav Sehgal (Yale). Additional speakers and the complete scientific agenda will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Industry involvement is also anticipated to be significant. Genflow Biosciences (LSE: GENF) recently confirmed that it will present new results from its SLAB study, which investigates gene therapy in aged beagles, at the summit, joining a growing list of biotech companies and research organizations unveiling new longevity datasets.
By uniting scientists, clinicians, entrepreneurs, investors, and veterinary professionals in one venue, ALOS aims to accelerate interdisciplinary collaboration and hasten the translation of aging biology into practical interventions that improve healthspan for animals and potentially for humans as well.
Registration is now open, with additional program details available at https://animallongevitysummit.com/
About the Animal Longevity Summit (ALOS)
The Animal Longevity Summit (ALOS) is the first scientific conference devoted exclusively to progressing the study of aging and healthspan in animals. With a canine-focused foundation and a broader animal-wide scope, ALOS gathers researchers, geroscience-oriented veterinarians, biotechnology firms, investors, and policymakers to foster scientific collaboration and convert discoveries in aging biology into longer, healthier lives across species.
