Feline or canine? Cast your ballot to select the top 'Best in Nation' pet

A single cat or dog now has the opportunity to be crowned 'Best in Nation' through the Pet Lovers' Choice Awards (PLCA) and take home $10,000 in cash — and your participation can determine the victor from the charming group of finalists.
Over 25 million votes were submitted during the state-by-state competition, with 50 pets — representing each state — emerging as top contenders from more than 50,000 entries. Three winners per state received a cash award and are now qualified to vie for the national championship. State winners were revealed on Thursday, June 25, during a livestream presented by comedian Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias.
At this point, balloting is open to decide the best in show! Here is the process: Individuals can vote for their preferred animals at no cost once daily. Should they wish to cast additional votes, they may purchase extra ballots. Every paid vote directly aids Best Friends Animal Society (BFAS), an animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing dogs and cats in America's shelters, with a minimum of 51% of proceeds going straight to the group. Voting during the state-level contest generated $700,000 for BFAS and its associated shelters, according to the competition website.
Animal enthusiasts have a window to vote from now until 7 p.m. PST on July 22.
The pet named 'Best in Nation' will earn $10,000 in cash along with a prize package featuring coverage in USA TODAY Pets, a national media partner of the Pet Lovers' Choice Awards. The 'Best in Nation' victor will be revealed in August.
