OTTAWA, Ontario, June 03, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Following weeks of energetic campaigning, intense rivalry, and more than 19,000 votes cast by Canadians nationwide, the 2026 Cutest Pets on Parliament Hill competition has officially declared its victors.
Organized by the Canadian Animal Health Institute (CAHI), the 2026 pet-friendly awards ceremony occurred on June 2 at Metropolitan Brasserie. The event united parliamentarians, political aides, journalists, and their furry friends for a night honoring the happiness, camaraderie, and bond that animals contribute to our existence — whether on Parliament Hill or elsewhere.
And the champions are:
- Cutest Dog 2026: Tuukka
- Cutest Cat 2026: Coco
- Cutest Other Pet 2026: Nugget
- Best Dressed Pet 2026: Bella
In its fourth edition, the competition attracted an unprecedented 142 submissions from MPs, Senators, staff members, and Press Gallery journalists. Because of the massive response, CAHI increased the number of finalists in the dog and cat categories from 10 to 15 each for the public vote.
“This year’s contest once again captured the fun, personality and bipartisan spirit that has made Cutest Pets on Parliament Hill such a beloved tradition,” stated Dr. Catherine Filejski, CAHI’s President and CEO. “Beyond the excitement of the competition, this event is also an opportunity to highlight the benefits of having our pets live longer, healthier lives.”
The night included a town crier, animal-themed drinks, red carpet photo opportunities, and loads of lighthearted “paw-litics” as finalists and attendees assembled to honor the unique connection that Hill workers have with their animals.
This competition does more than highlight the essential part pets have in our daily lives; it also underscores the significance of CAHI’s efforts to improve access to veterinary pharmaceuticals, which help maintain healthier animals for a healthier Canada.
