OTTAWA, Ontario, June 03, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The 2026 Cutest Pets on Parliament Hill contest has officially announced its champions, following an intense campaign season, fierce rivalries, and more than 19,000 votes cast by Canadians nationwide.

Organized by the Canadian Animal Health Institute (CAHI), the pet-centered awards ceremony took place on June 2 at Metropolitan Brasserie. The event gathered parliamentarians, political aides, journalists, and their animal companions for an evening dedicated to celebrating the happiness, friendship, and bonds that pets bring into our lives—both within and beyond the parliamentary precinct.

Here are the winners:

  • Cutest Dog 2026: Tuukka
  • Cutest Cat 2026: Coco
  • Cutest Other Pet 2026: Nugget
  • Best Dressed Pet 2026: Bella

Now in its fourth edition, the competition attracted a record-breaking 142 entries from MPs, Senators, staffers, and Press Gallery members. Due to the high volume of participation, CAHI increased the number of finalists in both the dog and cat categories from 10 to 15 for the public vote.

“This year’s contest once again showcased the fun, character, and cross-party camaraderie that has made Cutest Pets on Parliament Hill such a cherished tradition,” remarked Dr. Catherine Filejski, President and CEO of CAHI. “Beyond the thrill of the competition, this occasion also serves to underscore the advantages of ensuring our pets enjoy longer, healthier lives.”

The gathering featured a town crier, pet-inspired beverages, red carpet arrivals, and plenty of playful paw-litics as finalists and attendees came together to honor the unique connection that Hill-based Canadians share with their animals.

The competition not only highlights the vital role pets occupy in our everyday lives but also underscores the significance of CAHI’s efforts to improve access to veterinary medicines, fostering healthier animals for a healthier Canada.
