OTTAWA, Ontario, June 03, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Following weeks of enthusiastic campaigning, intense rivalry, and more than 19,000 votes cast by Canadians nationwide, the 2026 Cutest Pets on Parliament Hill competition has formally declared its victors.
Organized by the Canadian Animal Health Institute (CAHI), the 2026 pet-friendly awards ceremony was held on June 2 at Metropolitan Brasserie. The event gathered MPs, political aides, journalists, and their furry friends for a night honouring the happiness, friendship, and bonds that animals contribute to our lives—whether on or off Parliament Hill.

- Cutest Other Pet 2026: Nugget
- Best Dressed Pet 2026: Bella
Celebrating its fourth edition, the competition attracted an unprecedented 142 submissions from MPs, Senators, employees, and Press Gallery members. Because of the high volume of entries, CAHI increased the number of finalists in both the dog and cat groups from 10 to 15 for the public vote.
“This year’s event once again embodied the enjoyment, character, and cross-party camaraderie that has turned Cutest Pets on Parliament Hill into a cherished custom,” remarked Dr. Catherine Filejski, CAHI’s President and CEO. “In addition to the thrill of the contest, this occasion serves as a chance to emphasize the advantages of ensuring our pets enjoy extended, healthier lives.”
The gala included a town crier, animal-themed drinks, red carpet appearances, and abundant lighthearted paw-litics as finalists and attendees came together to honour the unique connection that Hill-based Canadians have with their animals.
This competition not only highlights the vital part animals occupy in our daily existence, but also underscores the significance of CAHI’s efforts in improving availability of veterinary drugs that foster healthier animals for a healthier nation.
