OTTAWA, Ontario, June 03, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Following an intense period of campaigning and competition, with more than 19,000 votes cast by Canadians nationwide, the 2026 Cutest Pets on Parliament Hill contest has officially announced its victors.
The Canadian Animal Health Institute (CAHI) hosted this year’s pet-friendly award ceremony on June 2 at Metropolitan Brasserie. Parliamentarians, political staff, media representatives, and their animal companions gathered for a night dedicated to honoring the happiness, friendship, and bond that pets bring, whether on Parliament Hill or elsewhere.
And the winners are:
- Cutest Dog 2026: Tuukka
- Cutest Cat 2026: Coco
- Cutest Other Pet 2026: Nugget
- Best Dressed Pet 2026: Bella
Marking its fourth edition, the competition attracted an unprecedented 142 submissions from MPs, Senators, staff, and Press Gallery members. Because of the high volume of entries, CAHI increased the number of finalists in the dog and cat groups from 10 to 15 each for public voting.
According to Dr. Catherine Filejski, President and CEO of CAHI, “This year’s contest once again captured the fun, personality and bipartisan spirit that has made Cutest Pets on Parliament Hill such a beloved tradition.” She added, “Beyond the excitement of the competition, this event is also an opportunity to highlight the benefits of having our pets live longer, healthier lives.”
Attendees enjoyed a town-crier announcement, pet-themed beverages, red carpet photo opportunities, and much paw-litical humor as they came together to recognize the unique connection between Hill staffers and their animal companions.
Beyond highlighting the significance of pets in daily life, the competition underscores the value of CAHI’s efforts to expand availability of veterinary medicines, promoting better animal health for a stronger Canada.
