OTTAWA, Ontario, June 03, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Following weeks of energetic campaigning, intense rivalry, and more than 19,000 ballots cast by Canadians nationwide, the victors of the 2026 Cutest Pets on Parliament Hill competition have been formally declared.
Organized by the Canadian Animal Health Institute (CAHI), this year’s animal-friendly awards celebration occurred on June 2 at Metropolitan Brasserie. The event united parliamentarians, political aides, journalists, and their furry companions for an evening dedicated to honoring the happiness, friendship, and connection that animals bring into our lives — whether on Parliament Hill or at home.
And the top honors go to:
- Cutest Dog 2026: Tuukka
- Cutest Cat 2026: Coco
- Cutest Other Pet 2026: Nugget
- Best Dressed Pet 2026: Bella
Now in its fourth edition, the contest attracted a record-high 142 entries from Members of Parliament, Senators, staff members, and Press Gallery representatives. Because of the exceptional level of participation, CAHI increased the number of finalists in both the dog and cat groups from 10 to 15 to allow for public voting.
“This year’s competition once again captured the fun, character, and bipartisan spirit that has made Cutest Pets on Parliament Hill such a cherished tradition,” stated Dr. Catherine Filejski, President and CEO of CAHI. “Beyond the thrill of the contest, this event also provides a chance to emphasize the advantages of helping our pets enjoy longer, healthier lives.”
The gathering featured a town crier, pet-inspired cocktails, red carpet appearances, and plenty of playful paw-litics as finalists and attendees came together to celebrate the unique connection that Hill-based Canadians share with their animals.
This competition not only highlights the significant role pets play in our daily lives but also underscores the importance of CAHI’s work in improving access to veterinary medicines, which supports healthier animals for a healthier Canada.
